“The Fire” is about a codependent relationship Holtby was in during his more chaotic years, when he was addicted and emotionally distant from his family. The Hell Series is a three-track EP about growth, identity, and an emotional reckoning. Holtby has been open about the difficulties that informed these songs, specifically the crisis of identity he experienced as a teenager after being adopted from Russia. That feeling of being an outsider, not knowing where you fit in, runs deep throughout this project, providing “The Fire” with its emotional center and backbone.
