Mumford & Sons return to their roots with "Malibu."

Mumford & Sons are back with "Malibu," the British folk-rock band's second single. It's a song about reunion, creative reconnection, and returning to something familiar. Lovett, Mumford and Dwane also have writing credits. The band, which consists of Marcus Mumford on lead vocals and guitar, Ted Dwane on vocals and bass, and Ben Lovett on vocals and keyboards, came together to write the track. Dave Cobb and Mumford & Sons produced it.

"Malibu" holds special significance in the band's creative process, as it was the first song they wrote after reuniting in Los Angeles in January 2023. That starting point lends the song an organic lift. Rather than a calculated return, its genesis points to a creative process of rediscovering the members' connection and following where that energy naturally led. Recording with Cobb was also key to capturing that feeling. The collaboration took the song from initial writing to a recorded form without losing what made it so recognizable to the band.

"Malibu" is a creative relationship finding its rhythm again. Its Los Angeles roots set the stage for that reunion, with collaborative songwriting and production bringing the three members back together. Mumford & Sons' second single, "Malibu," feels like a band rediscovering its creative instincts. It's a glimpse of a new chapter forged through familiarity, collaboration, and the simple spark of making music together again.
