Danish electropop group When Saints Go Machine have transformed heartbreak, isolation and emotional disorientation into the basis of a new track, "Co-Star." The band, which is made up of Silas Moldenhawer on drums, Jonas Kenton on synth and vocals, and Nikolaj Manuel Vonsild on vocals, structures the song around an intensely lonely situation. The story begins after the death of one of life's great loves, and the emotional burden of that death haunts its central character through a flight and into a hotel room.
For travelers, a plane becomes a place of emotional isolation, and a hotel room offers no relief as a television plays through the night. The world goes on outside, but the person at the center of "Co-Star" is still overwhelmed, unable to find peace. The hotel restaurant, too, is part of this picture of loneliness. An old American couple, A cigar, Stark lighting. It's all very removed from the emotional chaos going on inside.
"Co-Star" was written by Jonas Kenton, Kristian Finne Kristensen, Mads Muurholm, Malthe Beck, Nikolaj Manuel Vonsild, and Silas Moldenhawer, and produced by Kenton, Vonsild, Coco O., and Moldenhawer. "Co-Star" captures the feeling of being swallowed by ordinary life while grappling with something all-consuming within yourself. It is a portrait of heartache, with movement everywhere but inside the person trying to survive it.
