Cities & Sound makes an anthem from a riff on latest release “Ghosts”

Cities & Sound
wrote “Ghosts” in an hour surprisingly directly. In a basement, the band plugged in, turned on the PA, and found the opening riff immediately. Stephen Nakovich mumbled melody ideas as the band wrote, and the song developed naturally. The next day, the melody was clear enough for him to sit down and write the chorus live.

The band built the chorus around the melody from the writing session because they knew they had the upbeat anthem. “Ghosts,” therefore, was created by recognizing a good idea rather than planning. Fast writing doesn't make the song feel insignificant; it shows how quickly a strong musical idea can develop at the right time.

The band's favorite album covers are featured in the video, which explores creative ways to express your “voice”. The song's message is simple but important: what others say matters and you can always express yourself. Cities & Sound turn a spontaneous basement writing session into a song about finding the courage to be heard by adding their upbeat musical direction.
