Lawson Returns with heartfelt '80s romance in “She Don’t Even Know”

Lawson delivers a beautifully longing ballad with their new single “She Don’t Even Know”, an offering full of sexy, slow-burning eighties romance. A song that had haunted the early band days was resurrected, and the lyrics finally suited the nostalgic yet modern sheen of their first album, Chapman Square, thanks to a new lyricist, fellow songwriter Jacob Attwooll. At its center, it’s a song full of heartbreak, encapsulating the poignant ache of unrequited love through shimmering guitar lines and an intimate radio-ready rhythm.

Returning after a four-year hiatus, “Lovers” is Lawson’s first release since they signed to Cooking Vinyl at the beginning of the year. “She Don’t Even Know” keeps this revival going, revealing the band’s gift for intertwining earnest storytelling with pop-rock melodies that never age.

“She Don’t Even Know” is a song that feels simultaneously deeply personal and universal, a meditation on longing that lands in the heart exactly right. For devotees of latter-day Lawson, it’s a bittersweet reminder of what makes the band’s music so arresting, for the uninitiated, it is an endearing introduction to an emotionally overwrought world.
