Montreal singer-songwriter Loryn Taggart is back with "Walls." The track was created in the living room and was inspired by the '80s sound. Taggart wrote "Walls" during a Zoom meeting with Toronto songwriting duo Good Grief, Bryn McCutcheon and Kirstyn Johnson. Taggart and Howie Beck co-produced the song.
"Walls" is about an unusual kind of jealousy. Taggart moved in with her boyfriend and discovered she was living in a house he had shared with his ex, the memories and love of a past relationship were all there in her daily life.
"Walls" is emotionally charged because of that tension. Instead of a traditional break-up, Taggart explores the strange feeling of being haunted by a relationship that was never even hers. The home is no longer just a setting, but a repository of memories and lingering feelings, making familiar rooms places with an invisible history.
"Walls" draws its inspiration from Kate Bush, Maggie Rogers, and Talking Heads, but has an '80s feel. That combo gives the song a playful but mysterious vibe that fits its theme of past pain and resentment toward strangers.
